One animal that is the undisputed master of its terrain is the polar bear. Polar bears live a lot of their lives out on the ice floes, so how can you get to see them in person? The place to go is Churchill, in northern Canada. This is the "Polar bear capital of the world".

Laguna Miscanti is a lofty lake high in the Andes of northern Chile. It is in the Altiplano region that stretches into Chile, Argentina, Bolivia and Peru. The lake is part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve, which protects flamingos and other unusual animals.

You don't need to freeze in Antarctica to see penguins. There's an incredible place on the coast of Argentina where up to half a million magellanic penguins gather each year for breeding season. To see these adorable birds, Punta Tombo is the place to go.
